Fatalities and infections owing to coronavirus are on rise continuously in Bangladesh.
Thierty five coronavirus infected patients died in the last 24 hours, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said on Saturday.
“Besides, 2635 people were detected as coronavirus patients during the same period,” Professor Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General (Administration) of DGHS, said in a press briefing in the capital.
Dr. Sultana said that the death toll reached 846 while the total number of infected climbed to 63,026.
The DGHS official said that 12,486 samples were tested in 50 laboratories throughout the country in the last 24 hours.
She also said that the detection rate of new patients on Saturday was 21.10 percent.
Besides, she said, 521 Covid-19 patients recovered and got released from different hospitals since Friday.
The total number of recoveries is now 13,325, Dr. Nasima Sultana said.
She said that compared with the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 21.14 percent and the mortality rate is 1.34 percent in the country.
Among the dead, 28 were males and seven females. “Their age-based analysis says that, two were between 11 and 20 years, three between 21 and 30, two between 31 and 40, three between 41 and 50, 10 between 51 and 60, five between 61 and 70, nine between 71 and 80 and one between 81 and 90 years,” Dr Sultana said.
She said that 20 patients died in Dhaka division, eight in Chattogram division, three in Rajshahi division, two in Sylhet division and in Barishal divisions each.
“Twenty five patients of them died in hospitals across the country and nine at homes while the another was declared dead upon arrival at a hospital,” she said.
Dr Sultana highlighted that based on the reports collected so far, 77.06 percent of the deceased are males and 22.94 percent females.
The DGHS official reiterated that men still account for 71 percent of total infected in the country against 29 percent women.
She said, 314 more people were taken to isolation in the last 24 hours, while 98 were released. At present, 7,162 people are in isolation.
During the same period, 1,789 people were home and institutionally quarantined and 2,811 were released.
A total of 56,297 people are in quarantine across the country at present.
