35 killed in lightning

Staff Reporter :Thirty-five people were killed in thunder storm amid heavy rain across the country on Thursday evening. Of them, two were killed in Dhaka, five in Sirajganj, four in Kishoreganj, three in Rajshahi, three in Brahmanbaria, four in Pabna, two in Natore and Gazipur each, one in Naogaon, Habiganj, Dinajpur, Netrakona, Nilphamari and Pirojpur each.Of them, in Dhaka, two youths named Tahsan Linkon, 21, and Shahed, 23, were killed at Konapara Katherpool of Jatrabari thana in the evening. Raiyan, 20, was also injured in the incident. Sources said, the neighbouring people rescued the trio and sent them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The on-duty doctor declared Tahsan and Shahed dead. Anisur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Jatrabari Police Station, said, the trio were injured in lightning at the time of returning from the field after playing football. The doctors confirmed that two of them died.In Sirajganj district, five were killed in Raiganj and Ullapara upazilas. They were Nupur Khatun, Abdul Muttaleb, Anwar Hossain, Abdul Latif and Kohinoor Begum. At that time, two cows also died.Rizia Begum, Swapan Miah, Mamota Begum and Shariful Islam died in Bajitpur, Tarail and Hossainpur upazilas of Kishoreganj district.In Rajshahi’s Mohanpur upazila, three persons named Abdur Razzaq, Abdul Aziz and Satya Chandra were killed, while four others got injured.In Pabna district, Shahid Sardar, Heera, Paban Sardar and Shikha Khatun were killed.In Brahmanbaria district, Shafiqul Islam, Shamsul Islam and Kabir Hossain from Banchharampur upazila were died in storm and lightning.In Natore, Mubarak Hossain and Sahara Khatun, while Sattar Ali and Rubi Begum died in Gazipur district.
