BSS, Chittagong :
District police arrested 35 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir from different areas under Satkania and Lohagara upazilas of the district on Thursday night.
Separate teams of Satkania and Lohagara police in an overnight drive arrested 19 of them from Satkania upazila while the rest 16 were arrested from different areas of Lohagara upazila.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Satkania Circle, AKM Emran Bhuiyan said 19 Jamaat- Shibir men were arrested from Keuchiya, Chhodaha and Satkania municipality areas on charges of their involvement with sabotage acts before and after January 5 national election and after the declaration of verdict against Jamaat leader Delowar Hossain Saidee in War Crimes case.
Besides, Lohagara police arrested 19 Jamaat-Shibir men from different areas including Kolauzan, Padua and Choromba of the upazila.
The arrested were wanted in several cases filed for vandalism and sabotage in the upazila, said Mohammad Shajahan, Officer-in- charge (OC) of Lohagara police station.
