At least 35 people including journalists were injured in clashes between the two factions of the ruling Awami League ( AL) at Pulerghat in Pakundia of Kishoreganj on Friday before evening.
After about four hours of clash, the area turned into a battlefield sources said the supporters of former MP Advocate Sorabuddin and convener of Pakundia Upazila Awami League and Ex.IGP Nur Mohammad MP brought out a procession in Pullerghat Bazaar to mark founding anniversary of Awami League.
Tensions are running high in the area. It is alleged that Sohrabuddin’s supporters marched in a procession to the Poolerghat area at around 4.30 pm. At the center of this incident, people from both sides got took part in clashes.
The area turned into a battlefield during the conflict. Thirty five people from both sides were injured by brickbats and sharp weapons.
At one stage, journalists were attacked. They threw bricks at Channel 24 TV reporter Khairul Alam Faisal, and Prothom Alo district correspondent Tafsilul Aziz’s motorcycle was vandalized.
Receiving on information Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. The injured journalist Faisal was rushed to Kishoreganj general hospital in a police vehicle.
When contacted to Additional SP (Crime & Ops) Mohammad Nure Alam told the New Nation that “After the clash, extra police were sent to the spot from Kishoreganj. Police went and brought the situation under control. Sarwar Jahan, the OC of Pakundia, said, ‘Additional Police have been deployed at the spot.
