At least 35 persons were injured in two separate village clashes at Raninagar and Naopara village in Sailkupa upazila of the district. Three villagers sustained bullet injuries an Naopara and a police constable received brick bats injuries at Raninagar. The police detained six persons for their involvement in the clash.
Locals said, following a social conflict, two rival groups led by village leader Siddique Mollah and Latif Biswas were engaged in a clash left five persons including a house wife Manwara Begum and police constable Moahammad Ali injured.
Village leader Latif Biswas said, immediate after the clash, the rivals had vandalized ten houses owned by Nazer Mandal, Wazed Ali Biswas, Akkas Mandal, Manirul Islam, Khokan and five others. The attackers led by Siddique Mollah have confined them in a house and thretened for life, he alleged.
In another incident at least 30 persons were injured. Of them three villagers sustained bullet injured when the police men opened shots disperse the angry mob engaged in fierce clash at Naopara village in the afternoon of Monday.
The police detained six persons for their involvement in the clash.
Police and locals said, following a previous enmity in the village, some people said to be the supporters of village leaders as well as ruling party activist Mokter Hossain swooped on another party activist Liton Hossain in the noon.
As the matter was informed in the village, the supporters of rival Ratan were organized and appeared in the clash with Mukter Hossain group at Naopara village started at 12.00 noon. At least persons including a number of women were locked in the fierce clash continued for one and a half an hour till 1.30 PM. The app[eared with lethal and local sharp weapons during the clash.
The police men rushed the spot and tried to disperse the clashing people. At last the police men opened 21 shots from the short guns and six rounds of tear shells leaving Abed Ali, Swapna Khatun and Nawab Ali bullet injured. They were rushed to Jhenaidah Sadar hospital, while 13 others, out of 30 were rushed in Sailkupa upazila health complex.
Sailkupa police station officer in charge Mahibul Islam said, the police men brought the situation after 90 minutes at Naopara village and detained six persons for their involvement in the village clash. Additional law enforcers were deployed at both the places.
Both the clash originated following conflict over the upcoming union parishad elections in the upazila scheduled on June 4 next, OC said.
