A woman died of mosquito-borne disease dengue at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) on Sunday night while a total of 348 dengue patients were hospitalised across the country in the last 24 hours till 8am on Monday.
Of them, 90 people were admitted to the hospitals in Dhaka while the rest 258 outside the capital, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
In Khulna, Rekha Mollik, 45, wife of Chitta Mollick, of Jashore’s Keshabpur upazila died of dengue at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) on Sunday night. Dr Shoilendranath Biswas, resident doctor of KMCH, said Rekha was admitted to the hospital’s Dengue Ward on Saturday and died at 10:45pm on Sunday.
Besides dengue, Rekha was suffering from heart and kidney diseases, he said.
Sixteen patients have so far died of dengue in Khulna since January.
According to Khulna Divisional Health Directorate, 9,115 people were infected with the disease in 10 districts of the division, while 108 new patients were hospitalised in the last 24 hours till Monday morning.
Since January 90,278 people were hospitalised with dengue, most of them in Dhaka. Of them, 88,709 went home after full recovery.
Currently 1,327 patients, including 455 in Dhaka, are being treated at hospitals across the country.
The Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research received reports of 242 dengue-related deaths since the beginning of this year. It has reviewed 136 cases so far and confirmed 81 people had died of dengue.
