34 underprivileged families get assistance

Around 34 distressed and underprivileged families of char areas (riverbed) get sheep and van carts for improving their living and livelihood condition.
Lady’s Organization for Social Welfare (LOFS), a development and human rights organization, distributed the income-generating support with assistance of Bangladesh NGO Foundation to mark the Mujib Borsho-2020, to mark the Birth Centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Editor of Daily Sonar Desh Akbarul Hassan Millat, Union Parishad Member Golam Mostofa, LOFS Executive Director Shahnaj Parveen and its Legal Adviser Advocate Shahinul Haque attended the distribution programme held at the LOFS office premises in Rajshahi city on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Akbarul Hassan Millat urged the recipient people to boost commercial sheep farming to meet up the nutritional demand through boosting production of meat and milk.
He said quick economic growth of the region can be possible through proper uses and development of livestock resources. Besides, sheep farming has a vital role towards women empowerment and poverty reduction in the grassroots level.
Hassan Millat underscored the need for ensuring all the legitimate rights of the people living in char (riverbed) areas in the district for improving their living and livelihood condition.
He mentioned emphasis should be given on reaching the existing public services related to agriculture, health and education to the char people through formulating a char development policy on priority basis.
Millat observed elevating the overall living and livelihood condition of the char people can be a vital means of coping with the present Covid-19 pandemic situation besides achieving sustainable development goals.
