32,74,806 register to get vaccines

As of Sunday afternoon, a total of 32,74,806 people have been registered to receive COVID-19 vaccines as the vaccination campaign was launched on January 27.
“As many as 32,74,806 people got registered till 2:30 pm today to take COVID-19 vaccines,” Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) sources said.
Meanwhile, as of February 19, the number of vaccine receivers is 20,82,877 as the countrywide vaccination campaign was launched on February 7. Of them, 13,78,935 are male and 7,03,942 female. People aged 40 years and above now can get registered to receive COVID-19 vaccines, the health ministry sources said.
The vaccination drive was conducted at 50 hospitals in Dhaka city and 1005 hospitals outside the capital, the DGHS said, adding the immunization programme will begin at 8:00 am and it will continue till 2:30 pm every day.
However, some hospitals will continue the vaccination programme throughout the day, the health official said.
People have been asked to register through visiting the www.surokkha.gov.bd website to receive COVID-19 vaccines.
Emergency hotline numbers for receiving information on vaccination are 16263, 333 and 10655.
Meanwhile, After one-day break due to a public holiday marking the International Mother Language Day, mass vaccination of corona resumed on Monday across the country. In the morning, interested people were seen taking vaccinations at the center on 13th day of the program.
However, as time goes on, allegations of slow down of vaccination SMS recessing after registration are becoming more and more apparent.
On the day, State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) Swapan Bhattacharya has received the Covid-19 vaccine.
He took the jab at Jashore General Hospital at 10 am.
The people were spontaneously receiving the corona vaccine. Fear about side effects has already reduced. Hopefully, with everyone’s participation, we will be able to deal with Coronavirus very soon, the state minister said.
Meanwhile, another 20 lakh doses of covid-19 vaccines were scheduled to arrive in the country from India on Monday night.
The plane was set to land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital around 11 pm, airport sources said.
Earlier, Bangladesh received the first batch of five million doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine on January 25. Besides, on January 20, the Indian government sent two million doses of the vaccine to Bangladesh as a gift.
On November 5, 2020, Bangladesh signed a deal with SII for the procurement of 30 million doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine. As per contract, Serum Institute will supply five million doses each month.
It is said that under the Covax program, Bangladesh will get 12,792,000 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine in the first half of 2021.
Covax is co-led by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Gavi vaccine alliance, and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations.
Bangladesh began its nationwide vaccination on February 7.
