Around 324 people lost their lives in 1,956 road accidents in 12 days from 5th to 16th July during the Eid journey. Besides, 1,612 people were injured.
Most of these accidents occurred due to the non-availability of bike, private cars, trucks, buses and microbuses being hit from behind by various vehicles.
This information came out in a report of a organization named Save the Road on Sunday (July 17).
Save the Road said in their report, 96 lakh people out of 1.25 crore people traveled on road, rail and waterways paying two to four times higher fares. The remaining 29 lakh people traveled by their own vehicles or any other comfortable vehicle, but half a lakh people went to their destinations on the roof of the trains.
Report said, there was a strange decision called ‘movement pass’ for the motorcycle this time. Unable to go home on a motorcycle, many had to rely on ambulances, microbuses, hired private cars and even pickups and trucks carrying sacrificial animals. Millions of people went home despite being mercilessly piled up like sacrificial animals in these vehicles.
