32 shanties gutted

Some 32 tin-shed houses were gutted as a fire broke out at a tin-shed colony in Mohammadnagar area under Bayezid Bostami Police Station of the city early Wednesday.
Purnachandra Mutsuddhi, Deputy-Assistant Director of Agrabad Fire Service and Civil Defense Station said the fire originated from a tin-shed house of road No 5 of the colony around 2am and soon engulfed adjacent houses.
On information, three units of firefighters from Bayezid Bostami and Chandanpura stations rushed to the spot and doused the flame after one and half hours of frantic efforts, said Purnachandra.
However, no causality was reported the losses cause of the fire could not be ascertained immediately.
Fire guts jhut warehouse : Fire gutted valuables, worth Tk 3 lakh, at a jhut (scrap fabrics from garment factories) warehouse in Aturar Depot area in Chittagong city early on Monday, said fire officials.
The fire originated from a cigarette butt in the warehouse around 3:00am, they added.
Fire fighters managed to douse the blaze after five hours’ frantic effort.
