32 rare tortoises recovered in Benapole

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 32 tortoises of rare species from Putkhali border area in Benapole town on Wednesday.
Commander Subedar Farid Uddin of Putkhali camp of BGB-23 said they had secret information that some tortoises smuggled from India were being taken to Benapole town through the border in the morning.
A patrol team of BGB conducted a drive in the area and recovered the 32 tortoises contained in a bag belonging to some people.
The smugglers, however, managed to flee the scene while searching the bag.
The recovered animals will be handed over to Navaran forest office, added the BGB sources.
