Thirty-two people died of Covid-19 in the span of 24 hours, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said on Sunday.
“Including the new fatalities, the death toll now reached 1,171 and the death rate stands at 1.34 percent,” Professor Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General (Administration) of DGHS, said in a press briefing.
The health authority also confirmed the detection of the 3,141 new Covid-19 patients in the same span.
“With the new figure the total number of infections in the country now stands at 87,520. The infection rate is now 21.65 percent,” the DGHS official said.
She said total 14,505 samples were tested in 60 laboratories across the country in the period.
Besides, 903 Covid-19 patients have recovered since Saturday, taking the total number of recoveries to 18,730. Now the recovery rate is 21.40 percent, Dr. Sultana added.
She said that among the deceased, 27 were males and five females.
Dr. Sultana said also that 16 among the deceased were from Dhaka, 11 from Chattogram, two from Sylhet, one each from Barishal, Rangpur and Mymensingh divisions.
Professor Sultana said that among the deceased, one was between 21-30 years old, one between 31-40, six within 41-50, 10 within 51-60, nine between 61-70, two within 71-80 and the rest of the three were between 81-90 years old.
She said that 20 of the deceased died at different hospitals and 11 died at homes, another was declared dead upon arriving at hospital.
The DGHS official said, 712 more people were taken to isolation in the last 24 hours while 294 were released. Currently, 9,758 people are in isolation across the country.
In the same span, another 2,792 people were home and institutionally quarantined and 1,763 were released.
Currently, 61,814 people are in quarantine across the country.
Professor Sultana advised the people to maintain social distancing rule carefully and wear face masks in outside.
“The latest researches have shown that wearing masks reduce coronavirus infection and many countries have reduced the infection rate by ensuring that everyone wears masks,” the DGHS official said.
Bangladesh has reported its first Covid-19 infection cases on March 8 and announced first death from the virus on March 18.
