314 people killed in 239 accidents before and during Eid: RSF

At least 314 people were killed and 291 were injured in 239 road accidents in the country from May 7 to 20, Road Safety Foundation (RSF) said on Saturday.
Among the deceased, 43 were women and 28 were children, said a press release of the foundation.
A total of 134 people died in 121 motorcycle accidents, which accounted for 42.67 percent of the total deaths, the press release said.
Some 76 pedestrians and 37 drivers and helpers were killed in accidents during this period.
At least three people were killed and seven were injured in four waterway accidents while one person was killed in a railway accident. Road Safety Foundation collected the data based on reports in seven national dailies, five online news portals and electronic media.
According to division-wise breakup, Dhaka division saw the maximum number of road accidents while Mymensingh witnessed the minimum accidents. A total of 103 people were killed in 80 accidents in Dhaka and 16 were killed in 14 accidents in Mymensingh.
The foundation identified 10 main reasons behind the accidents that include unfit vehicles, speeding, unskilled drivers, slow-moving transport on highways, reckless motorcycle driving and weak traffic management.
The organisation also placed 10 recommendations to reduce accidents across the country.
