Three hundred and six road accidents claimed at least 270 lives and injured 219 others in the city and district during last eight months ending on Augusts 31.
Road Accident Monitoring Cell (RAMC) of the Bangladesh Passenger Welfare Association (BPWA) in a message sent to different news media today said August marked record 52 road accidents while March saw the lowest 27 road accidents.
According to the RAMC statistics based on different media reports, the dead and injured in the road accidents included women, passersby, children, students, doctors, drivers and transport workers and members of police, army and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and leaders and activists of different political parties.
According to the report, 34 people were killed and 134 injured in 39 road accidents in January, 13 killed and 56 injured in 28 road accidents in February, 19 killed and 142 injured in 27 road accidents in March, 41 killed and 109 injured in 39 road accidents in April, 39 killed and 158 injured in 46 road accidents in May, 31 killed and 194 injured in 35 road accidents in June, 35 killed and 207 injured in 40 road accidents in July and 58 killed and 219 injured in 52 road accidents in August.
