301 women get 27 tonnes of VGD rice in Chandanpat union

A total of 301 distressed women of Chandanpat union under Rangpur Sadar upazila received 27,090 kgs of rice under the vulnerable group development (VGD) programme on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The government allocated 90 kgs of rice for each VGD card-holder woman for January, February and March months under the social safety-net programmes to cut their poverty and improve livelihoods.
Each of the beneficiary distressed women get 30-kg rice or wheat for every month in a two-year cycle.
Chandanpat union parishad Chairman Amenur Rahman distributed the rice among the beneficiary women at the union parishad premises strictly maintaining the health directives in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sadar Upazila Cooperative Officer and Tag Officer for Chandanpat union Md Jahangir Alam, all nine Members of Chandanpat union and local elite attended the rice distribution functions. After getting 90 kgs of VGD rice for three months at a time, distressed widow Fulki Begum of village Shahbazpur under Ward No-1 of the union told BSS that she was extremely happy.
“The 90 kgs of rice will be enough for her to tackle the present coronavirus pandemic situation during the next three months,” said Fukli, and thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for allocating the rice at this crisis period. Similarly, beneficiary women Aktara Begum of village Chandanpat in ward No-9 and Shahabon Begum of village Puthimari in Ward No-6 expressed their gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after getting 90 kgs of rice each.
