UNB, Pabna :
A case has been filed against some 3,000 people in connection with the killing of three cattle traders in a lynch-mob-attack in Santhia upazila on Tuesday suspecting them as kidnappers.
Police said, Rana, brother of victim Alauddin alias Alal, a former UP member of Sadar upazila in Natore, filed the case with Santhia Police Station on Tuesday night. However, no one was arrested in connection with the incident, said police.
Meanwhile, police suspected that the three cattle traders were killed in a planned way after spreading a rumour that they were kidnappers. Besides, the bodies of the three victims, who were killed in the mass beating in Chaturhat area of Santhia upazila on Tuesday noon, were handed over to the family members on Wednesday.
The two other deceased are Aslam Hossain, 50, son of Abdul Jalil of Sadar upazila in Dinajpur, and Abu Bakar Siddique, 50, son of Sonai Sardar of Koroitala village in Atgharia upazila of Pabna.
Quoting witnesses, police said some people dragged the three cattle traders down from a Bogra-bound bus of ‘Alif Paribahan’ at Karamja Chaturhat in Santhia upazila.
Later, they beat them mercilessly after branding them as kidnappers. Additional
superintendent of Pabna Police Siddiqur Rahman said after primary investigation, it seemed that the incident was a planned one. “A group of people might have killed them in a planned way over transaction of money,” he said. Police are verifying the mobile phone call lists of the deceased to identify the culprits, he added.
