Heavy downpour submerged about three thousand acres of Aus paddy , Aman seeds and eighty houses adjacent to Dhalai and Monu River in Kamalganj Upazila of Moulvibazar recently.
Farmers are worried about their crops as a large portion of the croplands near the rivers has remained under water for the last two days.
Farmers in the same areas had also lost much of their boro crops in the just ended Boro season due to water-logging .
Shamsul Alam of Raghunathpur village in Kamalganj Upazila said , marginal farmers prefer producing crops on the riverbed and char areas of rivers as they can do it at less cost. We do not need to own land. Besides, riverbeds and chars have fertile land, he added.
He cultivated paddy on two acres on the riverbed this year. Water in the Dhalai River usually starts rising in May, but it happened much earlier this year, he said, adding that he has given up of hope of saving his crop.
Farmers of Bharatpur, Raghunathpur, Nittanandpur, Satijirgram, Kesuluti, Patanushar, Maizgaon, Patanushar, Dhupatila, were frustrated for flood water.
Narayan Mollik, chairman of Potonushar Union in Kamalganj Upazila said, due to heavy rains 50 families under water. Huge Aus crop lands under including Aman seed bed are submerged. River water is increasing still. We fear about it. About 30 families of Shamshernagar Union in the lower pockets is same condition.
However, Kamalganj Upazila Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer Krishna Singh said that a large portion of the Aus planted in the upazila was completely submerged in the rain water but did not get complete information.

If there is no rain, then there will be no damage to the field if the water goes down.
He said, low-lying areas in Monu and Dhalai river basins were submerged during the period. Aus paddy in 3 thousand acres of land got damaged due to the inundation latest data.
Kamalganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ashequl Haque said, due to heavy rains and uprising, some Aus land has been submerged and river water increased. But the administration is monitoring the overall affairs.
