People cannot understand the reasons behind the sudden collapse of the embankment when the high raised and durable flood protecting embankment is being constructed in the area by a Chinise company with the financial support of the World Bank. They apprehend that if the alternative step is not taken immediately the onrush water of the mighty river Balewar will submerge Bogi, Chalitabunia, Dakkhin Southkhali, Bakultala and Khuriakhali villages of the union and consequently, hundred of dwelling houses, standing Aman paddy crop of thousand acres of lands, fish farms, fish ponds, cattle heads and domestic poultry birds will be washed away.
Shahjahan Hawladar, Delwar Khalifa, Hanif Munshi, Babul Hawladar and some others of village Bogi disclosed, on the day at noon while we were witnessing the construction works of the embankment by the Chinise company a big portion of the embankment was collapsed in the river all on a sudden within moments. They added that they had not seen such a horrible collapse of the embankment previously. They further disclosed, if the alternative step is not taken immediately the area will be submerged with the water of high tide on the occasion of full moon.
Riadul Panchayet, UP member of Bogi Ward told, I did not witness such a terrible collapse of the embankment even at the time of devastating cyclone Sidr in the year 2007. The UP member further told, the Chinise Company is constructing the embankment without controlling the erosion of the river. So, the embankment may not be durable.
