30 UZs declared risky for living illegal Rohingyas

The Election Commission (EC) has declared 30 upazilas in Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban and Ranga-mati for the illegal living of Rohingyas. The EC formed committees at every upazilas in Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban and Rangam-ati for examining the nationality of Rohingya people in Chittagong division.
The committees are formed under the leadership of Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of the upazilas as convener and Upazila EC official as member secretary. The meeting also identified 30 upazilas of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban and Rangamati for the illegal living of Rohingyas and declared alert over the inclusion in current voter list.
The EC held a meeting with the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of the upazilas of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban and Rangamati at Chittagong Circuit House on Saturday.
Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Rtd) Shahadat Hossain said in the meeting, “The issue of Rohingya is a severe crisis in Bangladesh now. The Rohingyas are mixing with the local people and being voters of Bangladesh. Some of them are getting passports and other necessary documents to go abroad from Bangladesh. They are creating crisis in Bangladesh.”
 He said the Rohingyas will be excluded from the voter list in the four districts of Chittagong division. Additional Divisional Commissioner of Chittagong Shankar Ranjan Shaha chaired the meeting. The Superintendent of Police 9SP) in Chittagong Nur -e- Alam Mina also said in the meeting that there are many Rohingyas living in Chittagong including the metropolitan areas. He said they are also alert about the Rohingyas who are living in Chittagong.
 Among others, EC (NID) Brigadier General Saidul Islam, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Chittagong range Moha-mmad Moniruzzaman, Additional Commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Saleh Mohammad Tanvir also addressed the meeting.
 The Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of the upazilas of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban and Rangamati took part in the meeting. Meanwhile, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Saturday pushed back more Rohingyas and halted hundreds others on the frontiers amid reports of escalated violence in the Rakhine state that killed so far 89 people as army-led crackdown there was underway.
Officials said BGB troops today sent back 73 more Myanmar’s Muslim ethnic minority people called Rohingyas intensifying further the vigil with extra mobilization along the 64-kilometre long frontier, mostly land borders, a day after 176 of them were returned home.
“We have sent back 73 more of them today,” BGB’s Battalion 2 commander Lieutenant Colonel SM Ariful Islam told BSS while the district administration and police held two joint meetings with public representatives in the frontiers to mobilize an anti-influx campaign.
