Some 30 thousand fish fry of lobster and shrimp were seized by the forest department of Sundarbans and River police from the river Shela at Joymoni under Mongla Upazila in Bagerhat district on Monday morning.
It is learnt from Md. Enamul Haq, ACF (Assistant Conservator of Forest) of Chandpai Forest Range under the Eastern Division of Sundarbans in Bagerhat district that acting on secret information that some dishonest fishermen are catching fish fry from the river Shela defying the ban imposed on catching of fish fry of different spices from the rivers and canals of Sundarbans by the forest department he (ACF) and Md. Tamizul Islam, Officer-in-charge of Chandpai River PS accompanied by the forest guards and river police jointly raided the river Shela on Monday morning. But sensing the appearance of forest guards and river police the fishermen fled away leaving some 30 thousand fish fry of shrimp and lobster at Joymoni, the bank of the river Shela. Then the forest guards and police seized the fish fry from there and later the fish fry were relapsed in the river, said by the ACF.
