At least 30 shops were gutted as a fire broke out in Palbazar area of the district town yesterday morning.
Fire brigade sources said the fire originated from an electric short circuit of an electric line at about 6 am and soon engulfed the adjacent area.
Being informed two units of fire fighters rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze at about 8 am, said senior officer of Chandpur Fire Station. No actual financial losses were so far known although shop owners claimed that the loss may surpass Taka one crore.
