UNB, Bagerhat :Pirates kidnapped 30 fishermen from Aruab area in the Shela river in the Sundarbans under Sharankhola upazila of the district early Sunday.The victims hail from different villages of Sharankhola upazila. Requesting anonymity, some fishermen of Rajapur village said a gang of pirates of notorious ‘Saheber Golam’ bahini numbering 15-16, swooped on the fishermen of 30-35 trawlers while they were fishing in Aruab area of the river in the morning.The pirates beat up the fishermen and kidnapped 30 fishermen. The banditsdemanded Tk 50,000 as ransom for release of each fisherman.The pirates threatened to kill them if their demands are not met within a fixed time.Contacted, Ziaur Rahman, in-charge of Dhansagar Navy Police in Sharankhola upazila, said a pirate gang named ‘ Saheber Golam’ kidnapped 17 fishermen from Aruab and Tambulbunia area on Saturday night but he had no information about the 13 other fishermen.Police started their drives to rescue the kidnapped fishermen in different areas, Ziaur Rahman added.
