A trawler carrying a consignment of 70 cattle capsized in the Padma river in Daulatdia upazila of Rajbari district on Monday afternoon, leaving 30 dead and 26 other missing.
The incident took place at Dhowapara ghat at Chandoni union of Rajbari sadar upazila. The missing 26 cattle might have died.
Shahjahan Sheikh, a cattle trader, said the Patuaria terminal bound trawler from Kalukhali upazila of Rajbari district with eight traders and 70 cattle on board capsized in the river when the engine of the water vessel went out of order.
In association with the local people and fishermen the traders managed to rescue 14 cattle alive.
“We are ruined. The river took away our all investment and capital,” the cattle trader said in tears.
