Thirty missions out of 57 Bangladesh missions abroad have failed to achieve their respective export target in the first four months (July-October) period of the current fiscal year (FY18).
The key Bangladesh missions like the ones in — Brussels, New Delhi, Tokyo, Canberra, Ottawa, Tehran, London, Madrid, Washington, Athens, Brasilia, Hong Kong, Mexico City, The Hague, New York achieved their export target while some other important missions — Berlin, Yangon, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Paris, Moscow, Manila, Lisbon, Jakarta, Baghdad, Rome, Warsaw, Stockholm, Thimphu, Beirut, Rabat, Katmandu, Islamabad, Riyadh, Colombo — have failed to reach their four-month export target.
The overall export earnings for the July-October month period of FY18 amounted to $11,505.80 million against the strategic target of $11,592 million, showing a slight fall of 0.74 percent over the strategic target.
Of the 57 Bangladesh missions, some 27 missions met their respective export target set for the July-October period of the current fiscal year, according to the latest statistics provided by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).
The 27 well-performing missions abroad are in Brussels, New Delhi, Tokyo, Canberra, Ottawa, Tehran, London, Madrid, Washington, Athens, Brasilia, Hong Kong, Nairobi, Kuwait, Amman, Male, Port Lues, Mexico City, The Hague, Muscat, Manama, Cairo, Tripoli, Doha, Pretoria, Tashkent and New York.
Of the 30 missions that could not achieve their targets for July-October, exports still marked a rise for 20 missions — Berlin, Yangon, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Paris, Moscow, Manila, Lisbon, Jakarta, Baghdad, Rome, Warsaw, Stockholm, Thimphu, Beirut, Rabat, Katmandu, Islamabad, Riyadh and Colombo — over the corresponding period of the previous year.
The export growth of the remaining 10 missions — Beijing, Dubai, Geneva, Seoul, Hanoi, Vienna, Copenhagen, Darussalam, Bangkok and Ankara — is lower than that of the corresponding period of the previous Year.
The EPB figures revealed that out of the 18 Bangladesh missions having commercial wings, only nine have achieved their export targets while remaining nine others could not achieve their respective targets.
The nine missions with commercial wings, which achieved their respective export targets, are Brussels, New Delhi, Tokyo, Canberra, Ottawa, Tehran, London, Madrid and Washington.
Although the remaining nine commercial wings could not achieve the July-October export target, the earnings of six Commercial Wings — Berlin, Yangon, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Paris and Moscow — is higher than that of the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.
The export growth of the remaining three Commercial Wings — Beijing, Dubai and Geneva — is lower than that of the corresponding period of the previous year.
The highest earnings over the July-October month period, some $ 2025.21 million, almost one fifth of the total exports were registered by the Berlin mission, followed by some $1893.66 million by the Washington mission, and London $1402.56 million.
The strong showing from EU member states continued with the Madrid mission fetching $804.34 million during the July-October month period of this fiscal year.
The next was the Bangladesh mission in Italy, which earned almost $467.48 million, followed by missions in Ottawa and The Hague, with approximately $359.15 million and $405.58 million respectively. The New Delhi mission managed to fetch only $226.98 million.
