Police arrested three youths in separate incidents in the city and district on Sunday night and Monday.
The arrested were identified as Shafiul Alam, 26 , Mohammad Selim, 22 and Mohammad Titumir Emran, 23. Police arrested Shafiul and Selim from Maijjartek area under city’s Karnaphuli thana around 12.30pm today on charges of toll collection from businessmen.
“Following complaints from the local businessmen, police conducted a drive and arrested them on charges of toll collection under the banner of different organizations and associations”, said Mostak Ahmed, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Karnaphuli police station.
They are being primarily interrogated in the police station and steps would be taken following further investigation, the SI added.
Meanwhile, locals detained Emran from Madarsa area under Hathazari Upazila of the district and handed over him to police on Sunday night for uploading offensive pictures and making derogatory comments against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her son Sajib Wazed Joy on social network site facebook.
