At least three workers killed on the spot and six others sustained injuries due to electrocution when they were installing a tubewell at Pashchimpara village under Nababganj upazila in Dhaka district on Tuesday morning.
The deceased were identified as Hafizul, 22, Suja, 18, and Malek, 32.
The injured persons are Shukur Ali, 18, Babu, 18, Milon, 19, Azizul, 22, Zakir, 35, and
Nababganj Police Station’s Sub-Inspector (SI) Ariful Kaiser said that some workers were installing an arsenic-free tubewell in the house of one Monjur Alam. The accident occurred at about 10:00am. An iron pipe being used for setting up the tube-well touched a live electric wire, he said.
All the injured were taken to the Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared Hafizul dead. Of the injured workers, Rajab Ali was shifted to a Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) when his condition deteriorated, the police official said.
The bodies were sent to the DMCH morgue for autopsy, the SI said.
