Nur-e-Alam, Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2, Bagerhat, in a judgment jailed on Sunday morning convicted Md. Hridoy alias Rahat Hawladar (21), Mohiuddin Hawladar (22) and Md. Faizul Islam (28) to rigorous imprisonment for life and to pay a fine of Tk. 20 thousand each in default to suffer another rigorous imprisonment for one year more each on the charge of kidnapping and killing a three months old baby named Abdullah. At the time of the judgment convicted persons were present in the court. They all hail from the village Gulishakhali under Morrelganj Upazila in Bagerhat district.
The prosecution story, in short, is that at the night of March 11 in the year 2019 Reshma Begum and her husband Md. Sirajul Islam Sohag of village Bisharighata under the same Upazila were sleeping in their bed room along with their 3 months old baby Abdullah and at about 3-30 am when they woke up they did not find their baby and mobile phone.
They made a search in the bed room, but no trace of the baby and the mobile was found. Later they found that the window grilles of their bed room had been broken and the door was opened. Then and there they informed the police of the matter.
In the following morning father of the bay lodged a case with Morrelganj PS against a number of unidentified persons as the plaintiff in connection with the matter. By this time the kidnappers demanded the parents Tk. 10 lakh as ransom for their baby over a mobile.
The parents already paid them the ransom: but they did not get back their baby. At that time sensing the appearance of the police the (kidnappers) managed to escape leaving their motor cycle there.
After 7 days of the incident, police arrested them from the different places after tracking the mobile. Later as per the statement of the main accused the police recovered the dead body of the baby from a safetictank of a fish farm near at Kachari Bari of village Gulishakhali.
Police investigated the matter and submitted a charge sheet to the court on October 5 in the same year against the convicted persons. The learned judge after examining the evidences and 25 witnesses found the accused persons guilty and awarded them the aforesaid punishment.
