The army has detained three extortionists of the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF), a regional organization led by Prasit Bikash Khisa, from the remote Tarabanchhara area of Panchhari upazila in the district on Friday.
The detainees are identified as Nihar Bindu Chakma, 55, Kalo Chakma, 35, and Shantibhushan Chakma, 42.
Khagrachhari Sadar zone commander of the army, Lieutenant Colonel Arafat Hossain said, “They were detained on basis of secret information by run an operation. After the detention, twenty nine subscription receipts, one extortion diary, three bottles of domestic wine, four mobile phones and cash nine thousand one hundred fifty two taka were found to them”.
“The detainees were handed over to Khagrachhari Sadar police station”, he added.
Khagrachhari Sadar Police Station Officer-in-charge Muhammad Abdur Rashid said, “The process of filing a case against the detainees is underway”.
