Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Ministry has suspended three Union Parishad (UP) chairmen and nine members for committing irregularities in distribution of relief among the poor people suffering from coronavirus outbreak.
The decision was taken according to the Local Government (Union Parishad) Act 2009, Article 34(1).
Separate notifications were issued in this regard by the ministry on Sunday.
The suspended UP chairmen are Makhdoom Kabir Tanmay of Niyamtapur Union Parishad in Karimganj upazila of Kishoreganj district; Mohammad Abdus Sattar of Arjunpur Baramahati UP in Lalpur upazila of Natore district; and Mirza Ghulam Hafiz Sohag of Mazihotta UP in Shibganj upazila of Bogura district.
The suspended UP members are Md Reza of Ward No 5 in Arjunpur Baramahati union in Lalpur upazila of Natore district; Md Zakir Hossain of Ward No 6 and Md Rokonuzzaman of Ward No 8 in Kedarpur union of Babuganj upazila in Barishal district; Md Abdur Rob Patwary of Ward No 8 of Hazirhat union of Monpura upazila in Bhola district; Sheikh Mosharraf Hossain of Ward No 6 in Joynagar union of Kalia upazila and Rony Begum of Ward No 3 (reserved) in Kalia upazila of Narail; Md Rafiqul Islam of Ward No 9 of Khaskaulia union in Chowhali upazila under Sirajganj district; Al Amin Chowdhury of Ward No 3 in Bagbati union and Asiya Khatun of Ward Nos 7,8,9 (reserved) of Sirajganj Sadar upazila.
Earlier, 12 UP chairmen and 12 UP members were suspended on April 12 and April 15 respectively over the same allegation.
Besides, show-cause notices were served asking them to explain within 10 working days as to why they should not be removed from their jobs.
The notifications mentioned that they have been suspended for various reasons, including embezzlement of rice allocated under the government’s food friendly programme, VGD programme, assault on relief seekers and negligence of duty.
