A court has sentenced three of the four accused to death while one to life imprisonment in a case filed over the murder of Hafiz Sadiqur Rahman alias Sadiq in Sylhet on Wednesday.
Judge Mohammad Abdur Rahim of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court handed down the verdict on Tuesday afternoon. Each of the convicts has been fined Tk 50,000.
The Public Prosecutor of the court Md Nowshad Ahmad Chowdhury has confirmed the information.
The death convicts are – Syeda Rakha Begum, Ali Hossain and Rezwan Ahmed alias Redwan, residents of Jalalabad police station area of Sylhet Sadar Upazila.
The convict who was sentenced to life imprisonment is – Khaliquzzaman Layek.
Among the convicts, Syeda Rakha Begum and Khaliquzzaman Layek are absconding.
Citing the case statement, Additional PP of the court Md Jubayer Bakhat said that Sadiqur Rahman Sadiq was killed at a house in Kalibari area under Jalalabad police station in the city on October 18, 2015.
The victim’s family filed a murder case at the police station. The investigation officer of the case submitted a chargesheet in the court against the four accused the following year.
