UNB, Chittagong :A tribunal here on Monday sentenced three men to death for raping a female health worker of a non-government organisation (NGO) in 2005. The court also fined them Tk one lakh each. The condemned convicts are Mohammad Shafi, Mohammad Hosain and Mohammad Kalu. Shafi is in jail while the two others remain absconding.Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 Judge M Rezaul Karim handed down the punishment after examining the evidence and statements of six witnesses in the case. According to case records, the condemned convicts forcefully took the female health worker to an isolated place at Jaldi in Banshkhali upazila and violated her 2005 while she was passing the area to attend a programme on June 12.Later, a case was filed in this connection. Police submitted the charge sheet against the trio on August 21, 2005. The court framed charges against them on June 5, 2013.
