A Kishoreganj court has sentenced three people including husband to death for killing housewife for dowry, in the case of strangulation in Karimganj upazila of Kishoreganj
Apart from this, the court also fined the defendants.
The Special Judge (District Judge) of Women and Child Torture Tribunal-1, Kishoreganj Mohammad Habibullah announced the verdict on Thursday..
The convicts are – husband Khokon Mia (37), his sister Zarina Khatun (39) and relative Jalal Mia (43). All of them are residents of Gujadia area in Karimganj upazila.
Khokon Mia has been fined 50 thousand, Jalal Mia 30 thousand and Zarina Khatun 20 thousand.
The special Public Prosecutor (PP) advocate M. A Afzal confirmed the matter and said that the state party is satisfied with this verdict. This judgment will reduce the criminality of women for dowry in the society.
According to Case Diary (CD) , 16 years ago, Khokon’s , son of Iman Ali of Bandgomra area of Bandgomra area of the same union, married Hena Akter, daughter of Abdul Quddus, of Khailakuri village of Gujadia union of Karimganj upazila. Since marriage, other family members including husband Khokon have been putting pressure on Hena for dowry. Younger brother Saiful Islam built a tin house for Hena. Apart from this, sister’s husband gave Khokon 40 thousand rupees for business. After a few days, they once again created pressure for dowry. When Hena refused, the accused strangled her on the night of October 4, 2015.
In this incident, the next night Hena’s brother Saiful Islam filed a murder case with the Karimganj police station, mentioning the names of six people and several unknown people.
The Investigating Officer (IO) Sub-Inspector (SI) Zahirul Islam of Karimganj Police Station filed the charge sheet on March 15, 2016.”
