A court here on Tuesday sentenced three men to death for killing a boatman in 2015 at Bahadurpur village in Harirampur upazila.
The convicts are Monirul Islam, a resident of Pirer Char village in Bhanga upazila of Faridpur district, Rasel Mollah and Kartik Hawlader, a resident of Najirganj village in Sujanagar upazila of Pabna district.
Manikganj District and Sessions Judge Mizanur Rahman passed the order in the presence of the convicts at the court.
The court also fined Tk 20,000 each.
According to the prosecution, five men rented a boat of Abdur Razzak, a resident of Bahadurpur village in Harirampur upazila of Manikganj district, from Jhitka Haat ghat area to go to Dailatdia ghat on October 5, 2015. Later, they demanded ransom from Laltu Mallick, another owner of the boat, over mobile phone.
Following the incident, Laltu filed a case with Harirampur Police Station on October 9, 2015.
Later police recovered the boat from Bahadurpur ghat area in Rajbari district and arrested the accused.
Public prosecutor Advocate Abdus Salam stood for the state while Advocate Shipra Rani stood for the convicted.
