A court here on Thursday sentenced three people to death and seven others to life term imprisonment for killing a youth on theft charge in the city’s Nawabpur area.
Abdur Rahman Sardar, judge of Speedy Trial Tribunal-4, pronounced the verdict.
The condemned convicts are -Rahim alias Arif, Ziku and Abu Bakar Sidddiq. All of them were tried in absentia.
The lifers are Monti, Milon, Akash alias Russsel, Farhad Hosssain, Sajib Ahmed Khan,
Shohin Chan Khadem and Mohammad Ali Hawleder Babu. All except Mohammad Ali Hawleder Babu remained fugitive.
The court also fined the lifers Tk 20,000 each, in default, to suffer one year more jail.
According to the prosecution , Rajab was stabbed by the convicts near 16/1 Court House street on July 24,2011 when he when to Nawabpur road for mobile phone top-up.
He died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Brother of the victim filed a case with Kotwali police station in this connection.
On December 5 in 2012, investigation officer of the case BM Nazmul Huda(sub inspector), submitted a charge sheet against the accused.
