A trial tribunal here on Wednesday convicted three persons and sentenced them to death and four others to life in prison on charge of slaughtering a mother and his son to death in the district around five years back.
The convicted people in collaboration with each other hacked Aklima Begum, 45, and his son Jahid Hassan, 25, of Dewla village under Bagmara Upazila in the district to death simultaneously in the night of November 24, 2014.
Judge of Rajshahi Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal Anup Kumar pronounced the verdict around 11.30 am giving capital punishment to Abul Hossain, 53, Habibur Rahman, 40, and Abdur Razzaque, 35.
The life-awarded convicts are: Abdullah Al Kafi, 22, Ruhul Amin, 30, Rustam Ali, 26, and Monirul Islam, 23. They were also fined Taka 10,000 each, in default, to suffer six months more behind the bar. Referring to the prosecution story Special Public Prosecutor Entajul Haque told the journalists that previous enmity over a piece of disputed land was the main reason behind the double murder.
