A Dhaka court yesterday sent three accused of Dhaka’s Awami League leader Jahidul Islam Tipu, and college student Samia Afran Jamal Prity murder case to the jail.
Magistrate Mamunur Rashid of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka passed the order on Monday after hearing.
The three accused are Ishtiaq Ahmmad Jitu, Imran Hossain alias Jitu and Rakibur Rahman alias Rakib.
Earlier, Investigation Officer of the case Police Inspector Mohammad Yasin Sikder produced the accused in the court and appealed to pass order for keeping the accused in the jail custody. He opposed the bail plea of the defense lawyer as the accused will have to be put on remand to find some other import clues of the murder from these accused people. He further told the court that accused have been trying to hide some import information of the sensational murder during questioning.
On June 16, Ishtiaq was put on a three-day remand while Imran and Rakib were put on two-day remand on June 17. The accused were questioned separately and face to face with other accused during the remand period.
So far, 14 persons have arrested in the double murder case. Detectives are yet to recover the firearms used in the murder.
The accused include Omar Farooq, 52, AL General Secretary of Dhaka South City Corporation Ward-10 unit, Nasir Uddin alias Killer Nasir, 38 and Morshedul Alam alias Kayla Palash, 51. They were sent to the jail on completion of their two-day fresh remand in the case.
On March 24, Tipu, 55, former General Secretary of Motijheel Awami League, was returning home in his microbus from his restaurant in Motijheel AGB Colony area. His vehicle was stuck at a traffic light signal point in Shahjahanpur when attackers arrived at the spot on a motorcycle and opened fire.
College student Prity, 22, who happened to be in a rickshaw with one her friends next to the vehicle at that time was also shot and died in the incident.
