Staff Reporter :Police recovered three bombs from two courtrooms in the High Court on Sunday.  According to the police, two bombs were found at a courtroom of the Annex Building of the High Court at around 4:50pm while another bomb was found in a separate courtroom just about three hours earlier. “We confirm that the three explosives were time bombs. Two bombs were found inside books at the court no-17 while another one, also inside a book, at court no- 9 of the Annex Building of the court,” Rahmat Ullah Chowdhury, Senior Assistant Commissioner, Bomb Disposal Unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), said last night. “At first, two staff of HC found two bombs inside books at around 4:50pm when they were going to shut the courtroom,” the police official said. Officials said the bench of the court was conducted over by Justice Md Nizamul Huq and Justice SH Md Nurul Huda Jaigirdar. Apart from them, another one explosive was found in a book inside the courtroom no- 9 of the same building earlier at around 2:00pm.Each of the bombs, weighing 500gm, contains high-powered explosive substances and stronger than the cocktails.Security guards of the court surrounded the area soon after the objects were found. Later, the HC registrar informed the Bomb Disposal Unit. The recovered bombs were instantly sent to the Department of Explosives to know its category. Police said a staff of the HC found the ball-like object wrapped up with red tape and informed the authorities concerned. Witnesses said that the bomb was placed inside a law book after making a large hole in it. And it was kept on a bench of a courtroom No. 9 of the Annex Building. Justice Zinat Ara and Justice Md Habibul Gani usually use the room on the first floor for dealing with cases, they added. However, the police could not yet suspect or arrest anyone in connection. In another drive, the police recovered a loaded revolver from the office of Supreme Court Bar Association at 6:30 pm yesterday. Police said the revolver and five rounds of bullet were found in a toilet on the third-floor of the Annex Building.The revolver, owned by former commissioner of Dhaka’s Ward-35 Sekandar Ali, had gone missing eight days ago, police said.Sub-Inspector of police Sheikh Sirajul Islam said the gun along with five rounds of bullet was found inside a toilet on the second floor of the SCBA building on Sunday evening.Ali claimed that the gun was stolen and he lodged a case with the Shahbagh Police Station in this connection.Meanwhile, panic gripped among the judges, lawyers, and court staff as the news of bombs spread.Several lawyers urged the police officials to take extra measures to ensure security of court premises. In this backdrop, the police conducted a massive search in the office rooms of judges suspecting existence of more bombs or arms yesterday night.
