A three-tier security measures will be taken in the capital Dhaka to ensure smooth observation of the Holy Ashura, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah on Thursday.
In line with tight restrictions imposed to ensure security during Ashura, police have banned Tajia
processions of the Shia Muslims during night throughout the capital.
The traditional Tajia processions have been mandated to be held from 10:00am to 1:30pm on October 12.
“The use of close circuit cameras, vigilant law enforcers, dog squads, intelligence men, intense frisking and several other measures have been taken in some major points, including Imambara Hoseni Dalan and other spots where the Shia community will gather to celebrate the day,” the DMP Commissioner said while talking to reporters after inspecting the security arrangements at Hoseni Dalan yesterday.
There will be no scope of any subversive activity like the previous bomb attack, he said.
For the sake of security, the DMP Commissioner requested the people not to carry lethal weapons like knife, sword and other sharp weapons during Tajia procession.
Use of blades or sharp weapons or sticks has already been made off limits during this year’s Ashura after a bomb attack that left two persons dead and 150 injured at the Hoseni Dalan on October 23 in last year.
