A three-tier security arrangement has been taken up in the port city and district ahead of the upcoming the Eid-ul- Azha and Durga Puja.
In the backdrop of recent militant attacks across the country, law enforcers will beef up security before and after the two great religious festivals of the Muslim and Hindu communities respectively in different areas in the city and upazila headquarters of the district, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Chittagong Mezbah Uddin said.
The decision to adopt strong security measures came today at a district review meeting of law and order in the conference room of the deputy commissioner with DC Mezbah Uddin in the chair.
High officials of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP), district police, Rapid Action Battalion, all upazila parishad chairmen and upazila nirbahi officers and representatives from Eid and Puja celebration committees addressed the meeting, among others.
The meeting decided that law enforcers will remain vigilant and take all-out security measures to avert any untoward incident considering contemporary situation.
Besides, the CMP will install nearly 100 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at different strategic points to monitor the security measures arranged for the city dwellers after and before the Eid and Puja.
According to sources with the CMP and district police, the additional security measures will be in force for two days before and after the Eid and Puja. Necessary instructions to this effect have been issued to all the police stations and camps.
Apart from deployment of additional forces, detective vigilance was intensified in all the busiest areas in the city and district.
All the entry points of the city like Shah Amanat Bridge, City Gate and Oxygen area in the port city were brought under tight security measures with CCTV monitoring. Necessary instructions were also given to search suspicious persons at any points during the period.
On the other hand, RAB-7 has taken all-out security measures to make the holy occasions a total success.
