A three-tier security measures has been adopted in port city and its adjacent area of the district on the occasion of National Mourning Day tomorrow. In the backdrop of recent militant attacks across the country, law enforcers will beef up security in and around the mourning day programme in different area in the city and upazila head quarters of the district on August 15, though there is no specific report of threat by the intelligence, Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) and district police sources said.
The law enforcers will remain vigilant and take all-out security measures to avert any untoward incident considering contemporary situation, the sources added. Besides, CMP has also set up nearly 100 Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras at different strategic points to monitor the security measures arranged for city dwellers.
According to the sources of CMP and district Police, the additional security measures will exist from the previous day of mourning day and till next day.
Iqbal Bahar, Commissioner of CMP, told the newsmen that all the police stations and camps have already given instruction to ensure extra security measures at all the points of mourning day congregations. Besides deployment of additional forces, detective vigilance was
intensified at all the busiest area in the city and district. Chittagong district police has also taken the additional security measures in all 15 upazila head quarters from the previous day of mourning day and till next day.
All the entry points of the city like Shah Amanat Bridge, City Gate and Oxygen area in the port city were brought under tight security measures with CCTV monitoring.
Necessary instruction was also given to search the suspicious persons at any points during the period.
Bahar said, “We will watch the movement of boarders of the residential hotels in the port city”.
On the other hand, RAB-7 has taken all-out security measures to make the day a total success.
