JnU Correspondent :
The students of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism formed a human chain under the banner of ‘General Students’ in front of the university Liberation War Sculpture to protest the allegation against their three teachers and demanded the cancellation of the punishment.
They urged the university administration to discover the main incident. The protesters added that some people conspired to paralyse the department by bringing fake charge against them (teachers).
Earlier, the authority of Jagannath University relieved Associate Professor Mir Mosharaf Hossain (Rajib Mir), Lecturer Barnana Bawmik and Lecturer Priyanka Sornoker of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism of all departmental activities on Monday on charge of harassing a female student of the university.
Chairperson of the department Helena Ferdousee said, “The authority has taken steps temporarily after a primary enquiry into allegation depicted amoral conduct against these teachers.”
Rebuffing the allegation the teachers addressed it as a conspiracy engineered by the department chairperson.
Rajib Mir said that it was nothing but a conspiracy of the department head. “As I wanted the statement of expenditures spent on arranging a freshers’ reception, I have been made target”, he said. The other two teachers also said that they had no chance to defend themselves.
It was learnt that a female student lodged a written complaint on April 12 to the Vice-Chancellor against the three teachers that she was sexually harassed.
The authority formed a 5-member prove body headed by the university Treasurer Professor Md Selim Bhuiyan and asked to submit the report within three weeks.
