100 yrs enmity: 3 siblings among 5 killed in Kishoreganj clash, 50 hurt

Five persons, including three siblings, were killed and over 50 others injured in a long clash between two rival groups over erecting a dam at Charigram of Mitamoin upazila in Kishoreganj district on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased have been identified as Ferdous Mia, 55, Masum Mia, 35, and Makhan, 42, sons of Abdul Aziz of Suleman group, and Razib, 28, son of Sujon Mia,and Mukul Mia, 30, of Pallab group.
Of the injured, 20 were admitted to Kishoreganj Sadar Hospital and Mitamoin Upazila Health Complex, Police said.
Quoting locals, Md Anwar Hossain Khan, Superintendent of Police (SP) of the district, said, “The inherent rivalry between two local groups of people led by Suleman Mia of Paschim Hati and other by Pallab Mia of Taguar Para clashed over fishing in a canal by establishing supremacy in the afternoon. About two hundred people from both sides equipped with lethal weapons swooped on each others, leaving four dead on the spot and one on way to hospital.”
The clash also left at least 50 others women injured from Dhaki union, the police official said.
Police brought the situation under control and additional police personnel were deployed in the area to meet the emergency, the SP said.
Several teams of police are trying to arrest the murderers and their cohorts, the SP said.
Mitamoin Police Station officer-in-Charge (OC) Alamgir Hossain said, supporters of Pallab and Solaiman engaged in the bloody clash with lethal weapons, leaving five people dead.
The groups had an enmity for years over the right to fish in a canal. When they locked horns again around 1:00pm, it claimed the lives, he said.
We are investigating the incident, the police official said.
The bodies were sent to the Kishorganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, according to him.
Dhaki UP Chairman Mujibur Rahman said that the incident took place at Charigram village focusing over the one hundred years inherent based rivalry.
The main cause behind the clash was fishing by establishing a plumbing and occupying a water-body.
