3 Shibir men jailed in arms case

A Chittagong court on Wednesday sentenced three Shibir men to 21 years’ rigorous imprisonment for possessing arms and ammunitions including an AK 47 riffle in 2011.
They are Md Sarwar alias Babla, Nurun Nabi alias Maxon and Md Manik alias Gittu Manik; of them, Gittu Manik is now on the run.
Complainant of the case Officer-in-Charge of Bayezid Police Station Mohiuddin Selim said the convicts were close aides of Shibir activist Sazzad Khan, a condemn convict in killing of eight Bangladesh Chhatra League activists in Chittagong in 2000.
Police arrested the trio in Brahmanbaria and Chittagong and seized the arms and ammunitions from their houses. Manik who got bail afterwards is absconding, according to the prosecution.
