A court here on Sunday sent three union parishad chairmen to jail for embezzling 67.290 metric tons of wheat under the government’s Test Relief (TR) project.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate passed the order when the UP chairmen appeared before his court seeking bail in the case filed by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).
The trio is Malijhikanda UP chairman M Safiuddin, Jhenaigati Sadar Union Parishad chairman Zainal Abedin and Nalkura Union Parishad chairman Khalilur Rahman in
Jhenaigati upazila. According to the case statement, the three UP chairmen embezzled the 67.209 metric tons of wheat from a rural infrastructure development project under the TR project during 2011-2012 fiscal year.
Jahangir Alam, Deputy Director of Sherpur-Tangail coordinated district ACC, filed a case with Jhenaigati Police Station on November 3, 2013. The three UP chairmen had been on the anticipatory bail from the High Court.
