Three alleged robbers were beaten to death by a mob in Jhikargacha upazila of Jessore early Wednesday.
The identity of the deceased could not be ascertained, said Mollah Khabir Ahmed, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jhikargacha Police Station,
They were beaten by locals for their attempt to commit a robbery in the area around 3:00am, the police official said.
“I heard that the locals managed to nab three of the robbers and lynched them,” Police have recovered three bodies from the bank of the Kapotaksha River. They were lynched by locals on the ‘suspicion of being robbers’, the OC said.
The bodies bore several injury marks, the police official said.
“Locals gathered in Krishnanagar area after sensing a robbery attempt early hours of Wednesday,” said local Councilor Shariful Islam.
However, he was not aware of any robbery or lynching in the area.
