Zubair killing: 3 PWs produced before court

After seven consecutive scheduled days, three prosecution witnesses in the Jahangirnagar University student Zubair Ahmed murder case were produced before the court on Monday and Judge ABM Nazmul Haque of Dhaka’s Fourth Speedy Trial Tribunal recorded the depositions of two and fixed June 8 to record the depositions of more witnesses.
On the day, witnesses Dr Sohel Rana of Savar’s Enam Medical College and Hospital and Mizanur Rahman testified. However, other witness Kamrul could not testify yesterday.
The prosecution could not produce any witness for the seventh consecutive day on May 28. So far, the court recorded the depositions of 21 witnesses in the case.
Zubair, an English Department student of the university, was beaten by some Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists on January 8, 2012 and he succumbed to his injuries at United Hospital in the capital the following day.
A case was later filed with Ashulia Police Station in this connection. Police submitted the charge sheet of the case against 13 BCL men on April 8, 2012.
On September 8 last year, the Speedy Trial Tribunal framed charges against 13 BCL activists in the murder case. They are: Nazmul Hossain, Kamruzzaman, Mazharul Islam, Mohammad Mahmudul Hasan, Khandaker Ashik, Jahid Hasan, Mahbub Akram, Nazmus Sakim, Rashedul Islam, Khan Mohammad Rais, Ishtiaque Mehbub Arup, Shafiul Alam Setu and Abhinandan Kundu.
