Three Police officers of Mirpur Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have been punished for their negligence in performing their duties in connection with the submitting of a charge sheet in a theft case in the city.
The Police Headquarters has taken the decision against the Police officials on account of implicating 11-month old child and a dead man in the case.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque has issued the instruction in this regard, said Saheli Ferdous, Assistant Inspector General (Media and PR) of Police. Of them, Mahbubul Alam, Assistant Commissioner of Mirpur zone and Md Sazzad Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Mirpur Model Police Station have been withdrawn, while Maruful Islam, a Sub-Inspector of Mirpur Model Police Station, has been suspended, said a press note issued from the office of Police Headquarters on Sunday. Mahbubul Alam has been transferred to the in-service training centre and Md Sazzad has been attached to the Armed Police Battalion of Khagrachhari’s Mohalchhari, the press note said.
It also warned Mirpur Division’ Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mostaq Ahmed and Additional DC (Mirpur-2) M Jasim, said Kamrul Islam, Senior Information Officer of the Police Headquarters.
But the DC Mostaq Ahmed could not be reached over mobile phone after repeated trying and ADC Jasim informed that he did not get any letter. Meanwhile, on May 9, a Dhaka court gave the police investigator a week time to appear in the court in person to explain as to how and why a 11-month old baby and a dead man were implicated in the chargesheet. Earlier on April 30, when the baby boy in the lap of his parents came to the court to surrender responding to its arrest warrant issued on March 9, came to media attention.
“The 11-month old boy Rubel was 28 days only when the alleged crime was committed on June 26, 2016 in Mirpur area, but the chargesheet mentioned Rubel’s age 30 years old,’ Shamia Akther, the baby’s mother alleged. The case was filed by one Habibur Rahman who accused Abul Kashem, his two sons including Rubel and 20 others, saying they came his land with local weapon to take possession of his land, according to the case statement.
