The High Court (HC) on Thursday granted bail to Apan Jewellers’ owners Dildar Ahmed, Gulzar Ahmed and Azad Ahmed in three separate money laundering cases.
The High Court bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim passed the order after hearing three separate petitions filed by the accused seeking bail in the cases.
Now, Gulzar Ahmed and Azad Ahmed can be released from jail. But Dilder’s bail petitions in
two other cases are waiting for hearing.
Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) on August 12 sued three owners of Apan Jewellers on the charge of money laundering in importing about 15 maunds of gold.
Three separate cases were lodged with Dhanmondi, Ramna and Uttara Police Stations, while two additional lawsuits were lodged with Gulshan Police Station in this connection.
According to the prosecution story, owners of the Apan Jewellers imported around 15 mounds of gold and diamonds by “dodging tax”.
Apan Jewellers’ owners Dildar Ahmed Selim, father of the double-rape case accused Shafat Ahamed, has been made accused in three cases while Gulzar Ahmed and Azad Ahmed in two separate cases following the directives of National Board of Revenue.
The three were sent to jail on October 28 after they surrendered to the trial court.
