The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) claimed to have identified the three arrested members of an “international cyber crime group” from the city’s Mohammadpur Geneva Camp area. They are: Afzal Ahmed, 33, Sharif Alamgir, 45, and Shariful Ahmed Mohon, 23. They were arrested at about 11:30pm on Wednesday night. They used to cheat people through online communication and took money from them, said Firoj Kawser, Assistant Superintendent of Police and Media Officer of the RAB-2.
The RAB official said, “The fraud gang took Tk 9,22,000 from a man in phases saying that the money was being taken to release an expensive parcel from the Customs which was sent to him.”
Earlier, the victim informed the matter to RAB after realising that he fell to fraudulence, he said. The detainees were handed over to the police, the ASP said.
