Gas pipeline blast: 3 of a family receive burn injuries

Three members of a family sustained burn injuries when a fire broke out at their house caused by explosion in gas pipeline in Tulabagicha area of capital’s Jurain early Monday.
The victims are Khorshed Alam, 40, a rickshawpuller, his wife, Johura Begum, 35, and their son Rifat, 6.
Neighbours rescued them and sent them to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for treatment, police said.
Abdur Razzak, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shyampur Police Station said that the fire broke out at Khorshed’s house when he woke up to light a cigarette around 3:30am, said adding that police suspected the fire originated from a gas leak.
Khorshed was suffering from 28 percent burn injuries while Johura 14 percent and their child Rifat 1 percent injury, said Partha Shankar Paul, Resident Doctor of the hospital.
Fire Service Control Room Officer Mohammad Ali said, “We received the news of a gas-line fire in Jurain around 1:30am.
